Personal Reflection Of Langston Hughes s Poem, Mother And...

1 English Composition II Chandler Dixon Personal Reflection of ?Mother to Son? In the poem ?Mother to Son? by Langston Hughes, the author describes a mother?s warning to her son about life?s struggles. This poem was written in 1926 by Hughes, during a time period known as the Harlem Renaissance. This was a time of expression for African Americans as the culture was two generations removed from the Civil War. The life of African Americans was completely different than their pre and post war relatives. Many had gotten jobs, owned their own homes and even fought in the Great War. Despite the advancements made during this time, many if not most African Americans still struggled with poverty and discrimination. This is evident in the poem†¦show more content†¦That has helped me realize how lucky I am and to strive to make them and myself proud of my choices in life. While the setting for this poem is not revealed in the words, the reader can picture the mother and son in the tiny kitchen, him eating at the small table while his mom is cleaning the kitchen after making his snack. The small apartment shared by many in their family in Harlem, New York. The place is as clean as she can make it, but not shiny and new. I can relate here as my mom sat with me in the kitchen many a snack time and we talked about her life and how she wanted my life to be amazing. Along the same line of thinking as the theme and setting is the tone of the poem. The mother?s words are indicative of a gritty, hard-working, resilient mother that only wants the best for her son. She speaks of her life having tacks, splinters, and torn-up boards throughout as well as places that are bare, with no carpet. Hughes is using these words to describe the life she had and her resilient attitude comes out in her tone with the words. This tone of her words is relatable to me to depict the struggles in life she had and wanted emotion tied to them. My experiences with my alcoholic father is relatable her with how I felt and the words I would use to describe my experience. I too felt like my life was experiencing splinters and torn up boards. Personal Narrative Perfectionism - 1360 Words

It’s been three hours while I sit here and stare at the blinking bar, symbolizing the fact that I have nothing. My page is blank, but I promise you, my thoughts are not. The advancement in the Information Technology and the Telecommunications has rapidly transformed the global business strategies with increasing the dimensions of trade between nations. However, most of the multinational companies have always played a significant role in transporting goods and services across the globe effectively. Thus, when the company goes global and maneuvers in different countries, policies, procedures relating to employee training, employee hiring and staffing are largely affected, and the human resource managers are obligatory to have a sound global perspective of business that will help them t o formulate and implement human resource policies effectively (Beaverstock, 2017). This report consists of addressing the importance of efficiency in the staffing process for a company when the company operates in further countries. The report also explains the critical elements of international human resource management in relative with training, staffing, hiring and compensating an employee. This assessment also highlights the different modes of global staffing in relation with management expertise and the analysis of various factors of global operations (Zhou, 2015). Management Challenge: In modern days, most of the managers of large multinational corporations have realized that the importance of Human Resource practices to make certain the prosperity and competitive advantages of their business operations. There are many challenges that are faced by the organization staffing polices that include difficulty to control discrete operations geographically. Difficulty in finding local managers with best background and experience obtained from non- traditional sources (Kang Shen, 2016). There are various impacts of an organization international activity on human resource that varies according to the distinct stages of internationalization, the universal nature of any particular firm and specific choice of the industry. Moreover, most of the large companies tend to become global on the due course of their business operations because of which the organization existing human resource starts to work in different working conditions globally without any valuable experiences in international operation. Therefore, most of the organization needs to hire, train and maintain employees that are able to work in multinational conditions (Guo, Rammal Dowling, 2016). The organization also retains their talented employees while expanding their business globally. Global staffing has become one of the critical issues of International Management the main reason behind this that there has numerous growing awareness that the success of international business is mainly depended upon recruitment and selection of qualified employees and retaining senior managers. Staffing is one of the most complex procedures of International Trade. The performance of expatriates has become one of the major problems in international firms and the multinational firms are facing rising of cost in both financial and human terms. The need of global staffing and training is increasingly day-to-day due to the demand of multinational corporations to develop multicultural global workforce (Collings, 2014). Strategy: There consists of various policies that are related to strategies and in the various stages of Internalization. These strategies are combination of Ethnocentric, Polycentric, Regeiocentric and all the global considerations. Ethnocentric Approach: Ethnocentric approach is a type of approach when the company hires expatriates to staff their high-level foreign employees. The focus of the company is to use home country nationals to staffs their senior managerial employees post for its international operations. The emphasis of ethnocentric approach is more likely to be used when a company is entering into its internationalization phase or trying to make a strategic expansion. The primary need for this approach is to fill up the gap with key managerial positions with employees from headquarters of the parent country. The employees of parent country are very much familiar with the organizations goals, technologies and policies and all the business operations that provides a great advantage while using this approach (Wach Wojciechowski, 2014). Polycentric Approach: The polycentric approach is a type of approach where the staffing policy and management viewpoint are oriented towards staffing employees with the help of local talent. One of the most advantages of a polycentric approach is that it provides local managers to their organizations. Moreover, a local manager is been able to familiar with business operations and management decisions with local custom, fluency in languages, culture of the people and the cost associated with local managers are less than staffing an expatriates. The firm takes polycentric approach due to the problems of the business such as difficulty in coordinating business activities and the objectives between the subsidiary and the parent company (Neelankavil, 2015). Regeiocentric Approach: In Regeiocentric approach, the firm recruits employees for their international operations based on best in the region and it is done on a regional basis. This staffing approach is a mixture of parent country employees, host country employees and the third country nationals that are used depending upon the precise needs of the organization (Zhou, 2015). The use of this approach is increasing due to the advantage that it reduces the duplication cost of support services and most of the multinational companies are choosing their employees on regional basis (Moller, 2014). Global Approach: The global approach is a type of approach where the staffing method is done when the companys recruits and place the best qualified person into their positions despite of the country the employees belong to. Therefore, by using this approach the business focuses on building a global management team and its employees are free to move towards any geographic area. Cost Volume and Profits

Question: Discuss about the cost- volume- profit of an enterprise. Answer: Part 1: CVP analysis is an analysis of cost- volume- profit of an enterprise that is a technique in management accounting for the evaluation and determination of sales volume and costs of production for derivation and analysis of operating profit of business. The variables that are considered for this analysis are fixed cost, variable costs and selling price per unit of the produced goods (Gean and Gean 2015). Further, for the measurement of CVP, an entity is required to follow certain assumptions stated as follows: All the costs of products should be separated as variable cost and fixed costs Per unit cost of sales and variable cost as well as total fixed cost should remain constant The total units produced by the company are sold. That is, concept of closing stock shall not be considered In case of CVP analysis there is one more important concept- Contribution margin is considered. Contribution margin is the difference between sales value and variable cost of the product that should be more than the fixed cost in order to incur profit (Anderson and Leese 2016). Any firm or organization formed to earn profit to maintain growth and sustainability but at the initial stage profit, earning is quite difficult but the organization is required to maintain break even between its cost and revenue and also to maintain the margin of safety (Kumar 2016). In the given situation, the owner of the firm has set up business and started earning some profit but facing huge tax liability. On this issue, the owners accountant initiated to prepare monthly management accounts by charging higher fees so that the owner get an analysis for its product through CVP technique. As discussed and stated the meaning of CVP analysis it can be interpreted that an organization or firm should adopt on a periodical basis so that the management can keep a track as well as evaluate the pricing and sales of its products in order to generate and maximize the profit (Kim 2015). Hence, suggestion of the accountant of the firm owner was viable but instead of monthly preparation owner can ask for quarterly preparation that also let her negotiate the fees structure in case the owner is not willing to pay on monthly basis, as it is quite higher. Part 2: Financial reporting concerns on the results of the business as a whole and management accounting information are a detailed reporting on the operating level of the enterprise. In this context, there are several differences between the two concepts (Ge, et al. 2015). Financial reporting focuses on reporting of the profitability of the entire business whereas the management accounting information is conducted to measure the problems arising in generating revenues and profits and ways to solve the issues. Another difference is that reporting on financial information requires following several principles and rules set up in the accounting standards but in case of management accounting there is no such standards to be followed. Financial reporting is measured and reported on historical concept as it presents the performance of the company relating to previous years while, the management accounting is reported on historical as well as future concept in terms of budgets and forecasts (Weyga ndt, Kimmel and Kieso 2015). In the context to CVP analysis there exists certain benefits and drawback that are discussed in this section: CVP analysis assists in decision-making process for the operation of business and services in respect to the selection of products, buying decision, fixation of selling price and selection of marketing process. This analysis helps the management of the company to strategize its business operation structure to maximize the profitability (Anderson and Leese 2016). Another benefit of CVP analysis is control on costs in the production process of the organization. As the variables of CVP are variable costs and fixed costs, it provides different structure and effects on change of cost volume so that the production cost can be declined in order to maximize the profit generation (Gean and Gean 2015). Some other benefits that CVP analysis provides are determination of price, planning of profits and measurements of budgets that are vital component of the enterprises to plan and set goals in order to achieve the targeted sales and profit and by reducing the production and manufacturing costs (Kim 2015). Apart from the benefits, there are certain disadvantages of the CVP analysis that provides information for the companies involved in single product whereas it provides very limited details for multi product companies (Anderson and Leese 2016). In regard to the given case, CVP analysis would assist the owner in measuring the problems that hinders the maximization of profit and helps in finding the ways to lower the tax liabilities more efficiently if the business deals with the single product(). The advice in this context can be given to adopt the CVP analysis on quarterly basis instead of monthly basis so that the there will be number of data available for budget forecast along with the saving in fees of cost accountant. The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children

One of the 15 subtests proposed by the Wechsler Intelligence Scale is vocabulary. According to this subset, a certain word can be given to the examinee to define its meaning. In most instances, an individual is endowed with a given set of words that he or she can adequately define or explain the meanings.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The familiar set of words is referred to as vocabulary. As a matter of fact, the acquisition of knowledge and effective communication skills are developed gradually. In other words, knowledge acquisition and the ability to communicate well are largely dependent on the vocabulary well being of a person. In order to learn the second language, an individual should possess the ability to master extensive volume of vocabulary (Trull, 2013). This is usually one of the toughest challenges when learning the deta ils of a new language. In terms of definition, it is imperative to mention that each person has a unique knowledge in vocabulary and that is why the set of words that a person is familiar with are generally known as vocabulary. This implies that it is necessary to understand the meanings of specific words before an individual can claim to be conversant with certain vocabularies. Word knowledge can be evaluated or measured using quite a number of aspects as described in the following setcions . To begin with, productivity and receptiveness are the first two aspects that can be used to appraise knowledge in the use of vocabularies. The receptive vocabulary of a person comprises of a set of words that can be easily comprehended through seeing, hearing or reading. Such words may either be well known or completely unknown by the user. For instance, children can still respond to certain categories of simple vocabularies even though they are not in a position to read or write. Needless to say, the receptive capacity of a child may contain hundreds of words. If a person produces specific and suitable words that are compatible with the situation at hand, the scenario is referred to as productive vocabulary. This type of vocabulary requires some degree of knowledge or thinking in order to come up with an appropriate wording (Wechsler, 2004). An active vocabulary may not fit all forms of productive vocabularies used by a person who is communicating. The intended message may not be relayed merely because an individual can write, sign or pronounce a specific word. The latter is just an indication that the person has a small quantity of productive knowledge.Advertising Looking for essay on psychology? Let's see if we can help you! There is vast ability that an individual can be endowed with when it comes to vocabulary acquisi tion. A person takes quite a long time before he or she can build a large volume of vocabulary. There are some cases when certain words are never encountered. This limits the vocabulary base of an individual. In some instances, a person might have heard the word although he or she cannot describe it. These are some of the limitations of vocabulary acquisition. There are several types of vocabulary. For example, reading vocabulary refers to the ability of an individual to identify and comprehend meanings of certain words while reading a text (Kaplan Saccuzzo, 2005). The listening vocabulary of an individual consists of a set of words that a person understands in the process of listening when another person is speaking. Additionally, the writing and speaking vocabularies are also crucial in this classification. References Kaplan, R.M. Saccuzzo, D.P. (2005).
